Holy Tongue Meets Shackleton
Holy Tongue is a trio consisting of Valentina Magaletti, Al Wootton, and Susumu Mukai—three accomplished musicians who together have crafted a unique fusion of psychedelic, free-form, high-energy dub.
Across a trilogy of acclaimed EPs and their debut album, Deliverance and Spiritual Warfare, they have developed a sound that is both hypnotic and urgent, drawing on the experimental dub of On-U Sound, the rhythmic intensity of 23 Skidoo and ESG, and the spiritual depth of free jazz.
Their latest project is a collaboration with Shackleton, one of the most distinctive voices in electronic music today. Emerging from the early dubstep underground of the 2000s, Shackleton has since expanded his sonic universe through a range of ambitious collaborations, refining his signature hypnotic rhythms and conceptual depth. His music moves between the introspective and the apocalyptic, exploring themes of inner landscapes, tension, and transcendence. This record was born after a chance meeting at a festival in Sweden, where Holy Tongue initially invited Shackleton to remix one of their tracks. Instead, they embarked on a joint creative process, recording raw material that Shackleton then reimagined in the studio. The result is an intricate, immersive journey—a psychedelic and ritualistic dub exploration, shifting between intensity and restraint, chaos and stillness, the ecstatic and the unsettling.
